In Greene County district court Mitchell Kenneth Venteicher, 34, of Jefferson was sentenced Oct. 26to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of burglary- third degree. The prison term was suspended. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He was fined $750 with a $262.50 surcharge; both were suspended. Venteicher also changed his plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail on that charge. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge; the fine and surcharge were suspended. Court costs were $224.50. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
Aretina Pearl Jackson, 49, of Des Moines was sentenced to two years in prison after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. The prison term was suspended and she was placed on informal probation fortwo years. She was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge. A charge of possession of marijuana was dismissed. A charge of operating while intoxicated- second offense against Bret Allen Dudley, 41,of Scranton was dismissed on a motion of the state after the judge sustained a motion to suppress evidence in the case. Dudley had been stopped for excessive window tint at 2:18 am near Wild Rose Casino. The officer quickly determined the windows weren’t tinted. The judge ruled the JPD officer lacked reasonable suspicion to extend the traffic stop further.
Curtis John Bergemann, 54, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of OWI- first offense. He was placed on probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He must also complete a community college drinking drivers school. A judgment was entered for a $1,250 civil penalty and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Heidi Marie Chapman, 29, of Perry, operating vehicle without owner’s consent; Kaden Mikel Lowe, 19, of Grand Junction, trespass causing damage greater than $200 and conspiracy to commit non-forcible felony; Elisha Zechariah Hiram Ward, 18, of Jefferson, trespass causing damage greater than $200 and criminal mischief- second degree; Kooper Robert Behrens, 20, of Carroll, criminal mischief- second degree and trespass causing damage greater than $200; and Braxton Payne Holderby, 18, of Jefferson, trespass causing damage greater than $200 and conspiracy to commit non-forcible felony. Trial dates were set for Jan. 29, 2019, in every case.
